Surfing in El Palmar, Cádiz: surf guide
Why El Palmar is the surf spot of Cádiz.
El Palmar is an open beach about 8 km long in Vejer de la Frontera, on the Costa de la Luz in southern Spain. It is a sandy beach break: the peaks shift with the sandbanks and the tide, and there is almost always a wave for every level, from white water for beginners to peaks with a proper face for experienced surfers.
The best waves arrive with Atlantic swells from September to June. The levante (east) wind blows offshore and cleans up the sea, while the poniente (west) tends to make it choppy. Check the webcam and surf forecast before you paddle out, and if you are a beginner, always surf with a surf school: currents change with the tide.
